Position: School Nurse Pathfinder Tech is a four-year regional vocational technical high school with an enrollment of approximately 650 students in fifteen technical programs.Qualifications: Must have one of the following licenses.Please refer to the DESE website for more licensure information: http://www.doe.mass.edu/lawsregs/603cmr7.html?section=11Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License: School Nurse (Levels: All)(a) Provisional License1.Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.2.A bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing.3.Passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test.4.Completion of training within the orientation program for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health and identified by the Department.(b) Initial License.1.Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.2.A bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing.3.A minimum of two full years of employment as a Registered Nurse in a child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing setting.4.Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health.5.Passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test.(c) Professional License.1.Possession and maintenance of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.2.Possession of an Initial license.3.Three years of employment as a school nurse.4.Completion of one of the following: 1.Achievement and maintenance of certification or licensure by a nationally recognized professional nursing association as a school nurse, community health nurse, or a pediatric/family/school nurse practitioner.2.A master’s degree program that may include credits earned in a master’s degree program for the Initial license in community health, health education, nursing, or public health.Performance Responsibilities: Using available demographic, health and school system data, identifies health needs of the student population.Based on the needs of the student population, develops program goals, objectives and action steps.Provides direct nursing care as needed to meet the needs of students.Works with all school administrators to ensure consistent communication and transition of health services across grade levels.Develops and implements written procedures for the clinical services and programs addressing health issues.Develops and implements documentation systems at both the individual student level and the programmatic level.Provides an accurate, cumulative, specific, objective and confidential record on the health status of each student.Provides clinical consultation to health education staff, physical educators, administrative and teaching staff, students and families.Carries out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal.Ensures that there is an emergency care plan in place, which is communicated to all staff and is closely coordinated with community emergency care procedures.Compiles statistical reports as required by the school system and state agencies.Collaborates with local nursing education institutions.Documents, monitors, and works in collaboration with the athletic department with regards to concussed students and other health needs.Provides first aid to injured children and staff. Triages to appropriate health care providers.Attends school meetings, attends IEP and 504 meetings, and collaborates with other team members.Develops and implements individualized health care plans for students when needed.Maintain up-to-date health records.Interprets the health status of a pupil to him/her, the parents, and school personnel without breaching confidentiality.Authorize the exclusion and/or re-admission of a student with contagious or infectious diseases.Assist principal in establishing sanitary conditions within the school.Participate in in-service training programsMake formal referrals to specialists when appropriate and conduct follow-up of the referrals.Work with community agencies when necessary.Assist in the formation of health policies, goals, and objectives of the school department.Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, or his/her designee.Compensation: The compensation will be in accordance with the provisions of the approved Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School salary schedule.Position Type: Full-timeBenefits: Health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance are provided.
