Prior local and state government years of service count toward calculating vacation accrual rate!  Hours: 8 hours per day, 10 month position (Monday - Friday) 2025 - 2026 school year  The School Nurse plays a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of students within the educational environment. This position requires a high level of professional autonomy, as the nurse functions independently and exercises sound judgment in decision-making and clinical practice. Serving as both a direct provider of student health care and the planner and coordinator of the school heath program, the School Nurse ensures that health services are effectively integrated to support academic success and a safe learning environment across assigned school(s).  Primary Responsibilities:  * Provides illness and injury assessments, interventions and follow-up * Provides identification, assessment, planning, interviewing and evaluation of student health concerns * Interprets health status of students to parents and school personnel * Initiates referrals to parents, school staff, and community and facilitates follow-up for secured care  * Plans and implements school management of student health needs while delegating procedures in a manner consistent with the NC Nurse Practice Act and supporting position statements  * Facilitates health promotion and disease prevention education and activities in the school setting  Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN): Graduation from an associate degree program for nursing. ADN prepared nurses must complete the NC Credentialed Public Health Nurse Program within 12 months of employment. At least two years of nursing experience required. Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, home health, or emergency department preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.  License: Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Current CPR certification. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  * General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs  * Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health * Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare  * Knowledge of available resources and organizations  * Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions  * Must be able to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships  * Accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions  Our Mission To improve individual and community health through services, education, and collaborative action.
