Description
Main Duties and Responsibilities Teaching, Learning and Assessment * Develop, prepare, and deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. * Undertake module leadership responsibilities where appropriate. * Design engaging learning experiences that promote creativity, technical proficiency, critical thinking, collaboration, and professional practice within film production. * Deliver teaching across areas of Film Production, including technical filmmaking, cinematography, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, post-production, editing, production workflows, and emerging screen technologies. * Utilize a variety of teaching methods, learning technologies, practical workshops, and assessment strategies to enhance student engagement and achievement. * Ensure teaching is informed by current research, professional practice, technological developments, and industry standards within the film and media sector. * Supervise practical production projects and ensure students develop safe and effective technical working practices in studios and on location. Curriculum Development and Student Experience * Contribute to the design, review, and enhancement of curriculum content to ensure academic quality, industry relevance, and alignment with contemporary film production practices. * Support the development of international and intercultural learning experiences. * Act as a personal tutor and provide academic guidance and pastoral support to students. * Contribute to student recruitment, retention, employability initiatives, film screenings, showcases, festivals, competitions, and industry-facing projects. * Support students in developing professional showreels, production portfolios, and career readiness for the screen and creative industries. Academic Quality and Professional Practice * Engage actively in quality assurance, quality enhancement, and continuous improvement activities. * Reflect critically on teaching practice and implement improvements based on student feedback, peer review, and emerging pedagogical approaches. * Maintain professional and technical expertise through continuous professional development and engagement with evolving film production technologies and workflows. * Ensure the effective and safe operation of film production facilities, technical resources, studios, and specialist equipment. Industry Engagement and Partnerships * Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners, production companies, broadcasters, studios, professional bodies, and external organizations in Egypt and internationally. * Contribute to live productions, industry collaborations, internships, guest lectures, workshops, and knowledge-exchange activities. * Support initiatives that enhance graduate employability and strengthen links between academia and the film and media industries. Leadership and Collaboration * Work collaboratively with colleagues across the School and University. * Contribute to committees, working groups, curriculum development initiatives, and academic administration. * Mentor and support colleagues where appropriate and contribute positively to the academic community. Future Research and Enterprise Responsibilities At a later stage, the role holder will be expected to contribute to the University's research and enterprise agenda through: * Participating in applied research groups and communities of practice. * Contributing to externally funded projects, consultancy activities, and knowledge-transfer initiatives. * Assisting with grant applications, bids, and funding proposals. * Disseminating research, creative practice, and professional outputs through publications, film screenings, festivals, conferences, presentations, workshops, and digital platforms. * Developing national and international research networks and collaborations. * Supervising student research and creative production projects and, where appropriate, postgraduate research students. * Supporting income-generation activities that contribute to the growth and reputation of the School. Additional Duties * Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade, responsibilities, and purpose of the role as reasonably required by the University.
