About the Position:  The School Reading Assistant provides one-on-one reading and writing support to K-3 students at targeted Columbus City Schools. School Reading Assistants provide literacy instruction and read aloud to students, as assigned by the school. Hours and days worked align with school district schedules.  Position Schedule (Up to 16 hours weekly)  Schedule: Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 1:00pm  *Scheduled weekly hours can vary depending on academic calendar.  This is a seasonal position that runs concurrently with the 2025-2026 academic calendar year. The schedule for this role aligns with school breaks and closures.  NOTE: Candidates must be available to work consistently throughout the academic year. We are unable to accommodate extended time off (e.g., multiple weeks) for personal reasons or vacation.    What You'll Do:  * Provides support to K-3 grade students facing difficulties with literacy skills. * Teaches targeted literacy intervention to students through one-on-one interactions on a daily basis. Uses research-based strategies and resources provided by the school. * Provides specific literacy instruction to individual K-3 students or small groups using curricular materials as assigned by the school. * May deliver additional reading skill instruction using the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s processes and materials. * Conducts individual assessments to evaluate reading levels and targeted interventions. * Performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:  * High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. * Experience and desire to work with elementary age children required. * Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems. * Reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS  The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).  Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 20 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 10 lbs.
