JOB SUMMARY

Provides mental health counseling services to identified students. Assesses student and family needs as part of a therapeutic evaluation; provides case management; conducts professional development for school faculty and staff on mental health issues and classroom impact; and makes referrals to community agencies when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.
Certifications & Licenses: Florida Department of Education’s Specialization Requirements for Certification in School Social Worker (Grades PK-12) - Specialty Class. Professional License preferred.

    • Working knowledge of behavior/mental health needs of children and youth

    • Working knowledge of federal, state, and district legislation, policies and standards related to mental health counseling services
    • Strong working knowledge of therapeutic techniques and referral resources
    • Advanced assessment, case management, and intervention skills
    • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Strong calendar, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
    • Strong training development and delivery skills
    • Strong record keeping skills
    • Ability to conduct individual and group counseling sessions
    • Ability to conduct assessments, workshops, and activities for identified students & their families

    Responsibilities
    1. Conducts individual counseling sessions in areas of crisis intervention, family intervention, problem-solving/decision making, substance abuse, grief, and anger management, among other clinically appropriate reasons.
    2. Keeps accurate records, collects and reports data to supervisor in a timely manner; maintains necessary records and reports ensuring confidentiality of students and their families.
    3. Provides families with information related to the needs of their children, and acts as a resource to parents/guardians by providing family support activities.
    4. Collaborates with school staff to help improve students’ social and emotional well-being; and assists with conducting staff development activities specific to mental health development and social-emotional learning.
    5. Performs other duties as assigned.
