Responsibilities

Join our team as a Science and Technology Specialist in Edmonton, where you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering reclamation policy across land use types, agriculture, forests, native grasslands, and wetlands for a broad range of industrial activity types.
Reporting to the Reclamation, Remediation & Pesticides Manager, the Science and Technology Specialist is responsible for leading provincial policy analysis and development in reclamation and liability management. Participation on a highly technical team that develops policy guidance and requirements for industry that prevents or addresses environmental pollution and manages reclamation liability is a key component of this position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining provincial reclamation policy that incorporates new science and technology. While also acting as a resource for staff and stakeholders concerning Alberta’s reclamation policies. Industry and environmental professionals rely upon this guidance to prevent and address adverse effects to human health and the environment and manage reclamation liabilities.
The successful candidate will apply effective interpersonal and communication skills to provide inclusive leadership, effectively motivate, engage and develop technical policy, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The ability to foster and build relationships across the Department is necessary to deliver strategic advice and recommendations to Department leaders and Government Officials assisting the Government of Alberta in meeting their key mandates, goals and initiatives.
