SCIENCE COMMUNICATION – SUMMER PLACEMENT

Salary: £22,096
Hours: Full time
Contract Type: Fixed Term (10-12 weeks)
Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire
ISIS Neutron and Muon Source is a state-of-the-art research centre that generates beams of neutrons and muons for research in physics, chemistry, materials science, geology, engineering, and biology. ISIS supports an international community of more than 3000 scientists, who visit the facility to make use of the unique and advanced instrumentation for their research.
We are looking for a student with a passion for science and the enthusiasm to engage a wide range of audiences on the important contributions of large-scale research facilities. Based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the student will have the opportunity to engage directly with staff and users to learn about, and disseminate the broad range of science that takes place at ISIS. The role would be ideal for students who enjoy using different types of media to communicate technical concepts to non-expert audiences. The students must be able to work well on their own and as part of a team, and be interested in a wide range of scientific areas and their impacts on society.

Responsibilities
  • Creating clear and engaging content for a newly designed ISIS website.
  • Speaking with staff and users to create case studies in written and video format.
  • Taking part in our team activities, including creating written and graphical content for our website and social media channels.
