MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience managing projects that are of research and development in nature, particularly those focused on manufacturing and/or materials science.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in project management of moderately to highly complex work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
  • Experience managing projects that require consideration of complex operational aspects, including; hazardous/classified material handling and transport, numerous interdependencies on external organizations, high dependency on shared resources across projects, and complex reporting, auditing, and approval processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to be the primary spokesperson to report on project status and issues to all levels of management, staff, and external and internal customers.
  • Experience making independent decisions and researching, analyzing, and resolving complex problems both independently and as a team member.
  • Experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and external customer relationships.
  • Experienced ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
    Education/Experience for Science/Engineering Project Leader 2: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a science or engineering related field, from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation. At this level an advanced degree is typically expected.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with operations or other relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working with external vendors, setting up and monitoring multi-million, multi-year contracts.
  • Knowledge of and experience interfacing with one or more of the following programs: Directed Stockpile Work, Strategic Materials, Science Campaign, and/or Strategic Partnership Projects, including their interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Experience in handling classified matter.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
    Work Location: The work location for this position is fully onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

The Sigma Operations Group is a dynamic group that coordinates the daily programmatic operation and maintenance of the Sigma facility and associated technical capabilities. Our group consists of five teams, each contributing to the overall success of the division:

  • Science/Engineering Project Management: Leading and provide expertise for projects related to manufacturing research and development and/or materials science.
  • Programmatic Cyber & Physical Security: Ensuring the security and integrity of our facilities and systems
  • Nuclear Materials Management: Managing the safe and responsible use of nuclear materials
  • Programmatic Operations Support: Providing operational support for programs and projects
  • Programmatic Maintenance Support: Maintaining and repairing technical equipment and system

Responsibilities

We’re seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Science/Engineering Project Leader with the Sigma Division. As a key member of our Project Management Team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering complex projects successfully across the division.
As a Science/Engineering Project Leader, you’ll be responsible for managing moderately to highly complex projects, working closely with diverse teams to deliver project deliverables within scope, schedule, and budget. Your primary interface will be with project scientists and engineers, program managers, and line management, where you’ll establish technical requirements, negotiate deliverables, budgets, and schedules, and ensure that resources are available to accomplish the work.
