Description Department: Science FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Department Chair Schedule: mid-January 2026-late-April 2026; Monday through Friday school hours Designation: Teaching Faculty Travel: Rare POSITION SUMMARY AP Biology Replacement Leave – Science Department The Greenhills School Science Department seeks a passionate and skilled science educator to teach two sections of AP Biology and one section of 9th grade Introduction to Biology during a replacement leave. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in the sciences and a deep understanding of biology at the advanced placement level, with the ability to engage students in rigorous, inquiry-based study. At Greenhills, the Science Department guides students toward a meaningful understanding of science’s unifying concepts and the methods by which scientists explore and explain the natural world. The successful candidate will find great joy in working with adolescents and will demonstrate a passion for helping students develop sophisticated biological reasoning and laboratory skills through student-centered and hands-on learning experiences. Preference will be given to candidates who: Hold a degree in biology or a closely related science field Have prior experience teaching AP Biology or upper-level secondary biology courses Have completed coursework in teacher preparation and/or secondary science education Have experience working with adolescents in academic settings Greenhills science faculty work collaboratively within the department and across disciplines to create meaningful, real-world learning experiences. They integrate appropriate technology tools into instruction and design laboratory and field investigations that encourage curiosity, analysis, and scientific thinking. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibilities include providing appropriate learning environments for students in grades 9-12. Teach 2 sections of AP Biology and 1 section of Introduction to Biology. Participate in advising and co-curricular programs. Collaborate with department colleagues on pedagogy and curriculum, especially in courses shared between teachers. Vertically align coursework to provide students with a meaningful scope and sequence throughout their middle and upper school science experience, and with colleagues across departments to create interdisciplinary learning experiences for students. Conduct regular hands-on, laboratory experiments and projects in alignment with the science and engineering practices described by NGSS. Reflect on instructional practices and seek out opportunities for professional development. Create inclusive, effective and curious classroom environments and provide learning support for students inside and outside the classroom as needed, including implementing formal accommodations, in consultation with the Greenhills Learning Center. Practice clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Attend regular department, faculty, and other meetings. Promote an inclusive working and community environment. Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students and maintaining healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships. Requirements SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED B.A. or B.S. in Science, or a related field required; a master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Several years of teaching experience, ideally at the secondary level, is preferred. The ideal candidate has experience teaching life science. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Office environment. Repetitive motion, use of keyboard. Occasional light lifting and carrying.
