The role requires translating complex scientific information into plain language content for diverse audiences including policymakers, researchers, and the public. Key Responsibilities Write and edit articles, blogs, fact sheets, press releases, white papers, reports, and web content related to scientific research and NSF programs. Translate complex scientific and technical information into clear, accessible language for non-expert audiences. Draft and edit web content summarizing policies, funding opportunities, and guidance for NSF proposers and awardees. Conduct research and fact-checking, collaborating with NSF staff, scientists, and program officials to ensure accuracy. Ensure all written products comply with Plain Writing Act of 2010, Section 508 accessibility standards, and AP Style guidelines. Optimize digital content using SEO and AEO best practices. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Science, or a related field (preferred). Experience Minimum 5 years of professional writing and editing experience. At least 3 years writing about scientific or technical subjects. Experience supporting federal agencies, research organizations, or scientific institutions preferred. Required Skills Strong science writing and editing skills Ability to translate technical scientific concepts into plain language Experience writing press releases, reports, blogs, fact sheets, and web content Knowledge of AP Style, Plain Language standards, and Section 508 compliance Strong research and fact-checking skills Familiarity with SEO and digital content optimizatio
