__________ DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY AND MOLECULAR MEDICINE - FACULTY OF MEDICINE, CHRISTCHURCH TE TARI MĀTAI TUKUMATE, MĀTAI HAUORA KOIORA About our team/Mō te tīma The Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine undertakes internationally renowned research in pathology, biomedical science, and imaging. This research underpins our award-winning teaching of postgraduate research students and undergraduate medical students.. The Department is home to He Taonga Tapu Cancer Society Tissue Bank (HTTCSTB), which supports cancer research by collecting and managing human biospecimens and data. The Tissue Bank follows the highest ethical, legal, cultural, and scientific standards, in collaboration with the University of Otago, Christchurch, Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, and the Cancer Society of New Zealand (Southern Division). Te Mahi – The Role As Scientific Officer (Biobank), you will play a significant role in the operation and development of the HTTCSTB, ensuring best-practice standards for the collection, processing, and storage of human biospecimens and data in line with ethical and legislative requirements. You will work closely with clinicians, researchers, Māori and Pacific advisors, and the Tissue Bank’s governance board to enable high-quality, culturally grounded research. The role also includes facilitating researcher access, driving process improvements, and promoting the Tissue Bank within the research and wider community. Kā pūkeka me kā wheako - Your skills and experience The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant biomedical or life sciences discipline and bring proven experience in research or biobanking. They will demonstrate exceptional technical and data management skills, coupled with meticulous attention to detail. A strong understanding of regulatory, ethical, and cultural considerations surrounding human tissue research is essential to ensure compliance and uphold best practices. We are seeking a candidate with: • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, researchers, and governance groups. • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities. • Self-directed and motivated with the ability to work both independently and within a team. • Highly organised with proven ability to manage time effectively. • Dedication to working in a culturally safe and respectful manner and demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and Pasifika values. Pūroko - Further details This is a part time (18.75 hours per week), position located in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. The appointments range for this role is $97,377 to $114,943 (pro-rata).
