SUMMARY
Prof. Ibrahim Demir at the ByWater Institute, Tulane University is seeking a highly motivated Scientific Research Analyst II with specialized expertise in applying advanced AI methodologies, especially multimodal large language models (MLLMs) and multi-agent systems—for hydrological and water resource management applications. The successful candidate will lead or contribute to research and development of AI-driven decision-support systems, multimodal data analytics, and socio-technical frameworks addressing complex hydrological challenges such as flood mitigation, water quality monitoring, and community-level hazard planning.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Master’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field OR• Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience• REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: • Demonstrable skills in full-stack web application development, including front-end (e.g., React), back-end (e.g., Python frameworks).• Proven experience with advanced AI/ML techniques, particularly in the application or development of large language models (LLMs), multimodal AI (vision + language), and multi-agent systems for environmental/hydrological applications.• Practical knowledge of fine-tuning and deploying LLMs using approaches such as LoRA, and familiarity with relevant benchmark and training datasets.• Demonstrated skills in programming and software development using Python and AI/ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers).• Experience with multimodal data processing, including image, text, and sensor data fusion for environmental monitoring and analysis.• Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and in agile development.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record (or strong interest) in publishing or contributing to peer-reviewed research.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art multimodal LLMs and AI frameworks for collective intelligence and emotional integration in decision-making.• Proven ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to agile development projects.• Background in developing or applying AI-driven multi-agent simulations for water resource management, hazard mitigation, or environmental planning.
