Description
SAIC is seeking a Scientific Systems Engineer to support FDA operations. This role provides critical scientific computing support to FDA scientists within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) in Silver Spring, MD. Our team supports FDA's scientific mission through comprehensive technical services including hardware management, software support, desktop administration, infrastructure maintenance, and virtualization - all within specialized laboratory environments. Key Responsibilities Perform software application maintenance on scientific workstations across multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS and Linux environments). Execute routine and preventative maintenance including application installations, disk optimization, and system monitoring. Maintain and troubleshoot end-user computing hardware including workstations, network switches, and routers. Detect, isolate, document, and rapidly resolve system outages and technical problems in the scientific environment. Respond to user support requests for hardware and software issues, ensuring proper escalation when necessary. Communicate problem status updates to users effectively. Configure and manage Windows and macOS scientific workstations with Active Directory integration. Ensure strict compliance with FDA security standards and policies. Provide direct customer support for day-to-day technical operations. Document problems in logging and reporting tool and maintain accurate problem-resolution logs. Additional responsibilities will include end user documentation and training, computer moves and deployments, and additional duties as assigned. Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in scientific or technical discipline - (chemistry, physics), engineering (any), information systems, computer science, or related interdisciplinary degree). 10+ years of relevant experience in scientific computing environments. Proficient in setup, configuration and administration of Windows and macOS computers. Experience with Active Directory and Windows Server Update Services. Proven troubleshooting skills for laboratory instrumentation systems and associated software. Excellent oral and written communication abilities for technical documentation and reporting. Demonstrated experience working with highly technical customer base including scientists, researchers and physicians. Must possess active FDA Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain prior to start. U.S. citizenship required. Preferred: Familiarity with Linux OS (Ubuntu, Oracle Enterprise Linux). Experience with scripting languages and automation tools.
