Job Description: The Scientist position will report directly to the clinical microbiologists at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. The Scientist position provides a full range of microbiology services including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, mycobacteriology, virology, and immunoserology. The successful applicant will conduct directed reviews of guidelines and standards relevant to the clinical discipline and recommend updates or improvements to laboratory processes, procedures, equipment, and reagents. They will perform evaluations and validation studies of commercial assays and assist with the implementation of new tests or methods in the laboratory. They will lead the design, validation and implementation of advanced assays, including laboratory developed tests for use in an accredited clinical lab. The candidate will troubleshoot the performance of clinical assays and methods. They may liaise with vendors and test developers to assist in optimizing the performance and efficiency of laboratory assays.

  • Experience in data integration & visualizations

EDUCATION

  • PhD degree in Microbiology or related life science

OTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Licensed, and in good standing, with regulatory body, if applicable

  • Ability to perform bench work
  • Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
