Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: Rockville MD - Rockville, MD Position Type: Full Time Education Level: PhD Salary Range: $80000.00 - $100000.00 Salary/year Travel Percentage: 0-10 % Job Shift: Day Job Category: Biotech Description TITLE: Scientist II, NGS REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD REPORTS TO: Manager, Functional Genomics DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS: Planning and execution of NGS projects from experimental design and sample processing to data analysis and delivery. Perform RNA & DNA extraction from a variety of sample types and species Generate libraries and sequence samples using Illumina platforms Design, troubleshoot, and execute qPCR assays Build strong collaborative relationships with the project investigators, key stakeholders, project bioinformaticians and data scientists to improve project and assay development efficiency. Present findings and methodologies to internal and external stakeholders, addressing their specific needs and incorporating feedback to refine the development platforms. Develop, write, and review technical documents such as method SOP's and other documents in adherence to Champions quality control system. Other duties may be assigned verbally at any time Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: In-depth knowledge of and experience with modern molecular and cellular biology techniques, with a deep knowledge base for qPCR and RNA and/or DNA sequencing Demonstrated expertise in human genetic principles, data interpretation, and their application to biomedical research and drug discovery. Superior planning, organizational, computer, written, and verbal communication skills Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, which requires flexibility and a willingness to learn new techniques and concepts and complete customer satisfaction. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: PhD and/or 2-4 years of relevant experience in functional genomics and/or molecular genetics Background and expertise in cancer genetics, human genetics and cancer biology strongly preferred. Significant hands-on experience with a range of Next Generation Sequencing /Transcriptomics technologies including RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, genotyping methodologies Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment in making timely decisions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel. Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility. Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling, or pushing.
