ABOUT US

Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health. It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There is currently 18 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.
You will be joining Monash Health at an exciting time as we work in partnership with Alfred Health to be the premier shared public pathology service in Victoria. As a member of the pathology team you will be helping shape the direction of the partnership.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in staff rotations, overtime and on call & out of hour rosters as directed. Operational hours of the laboratory are 05:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00 - 14:30 Saturday. Participate in self education activities, internal & external training courses, and in clinical and scientific meetings (including speaking) is expected. You must be able to perform tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:

  • Responsible for the satisfactory labelling, processing, and paraffin embedding of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
  • Prepare paraffin sections of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
  • Perform and assist with the specimen cut up;
  • Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
  • Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
  • Assist at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling;
  • Assist with a range of mortuary duties;
  • Other duties as directed
