Description The Scorekeeper is a part time position. Scorekeepers will work in cooperation with Athletic Site Supervisors and assigned independently contracted game officials to score sports games. This position also assists in the set up and break down of all necessary equipment for the program. Scorekeepers report to the Recreation Manager – Athletics and Events. Requirements 1. Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy. 2. Sufficient knowledge of the sport of basketball and ability to keep both written record of game events and operate electronic scoreboard equipment. 3. Must possess a pleasant demeanor and can always interact with the public in a courteous manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Arrive on time for assignments (at least 15 minutes prior to first scheduled game). 2. Provide accurate scoring of the game you are assigned to. 3. Supervise and assist any part time staff, independent contractors, and volunteers that have assigned duties at the facility related to the event. This can include, but is not limited to, game officials, facility supervisors, and volunteer coaches. 4. Monitor game court and bench areas during a game. 5. Assist with the set up and break down all necessary equipment. 6. Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation. 7. Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the park district’s safety program. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS 1. Assist with any special projects related to a game or event. 2. Assist with general upkeep of facilities including light janitorial duties as necessary. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS 1. Employee may be exposed to any indoor conditions normally present in a gymnasium setting. 2. Employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions if working for outdoor events. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 1. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, use hands, sit, stoop, or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. 2. Must be able to operate any electronic scoring equipment necessary for the proper administration of the game. 3. Specific vision requirements include distance, peripheral and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 4. Basketball scorekeepers must be able to resolve differences and problems that arise with discrepancies in game statistics with the assigned game officials and volunteer coaches, or when necessary, seek the assistance of the Facility or Recreation Manager in resolving such issues. 5. Interact with co-workers, general population/park patrons in a professional and positive manner. 6. Must be able to maintain a safe and well-organized work area. 7. Must be able to function in stressful situations, such as when first aid or CPR is required. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities. Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgement and safety awareness. 4. Worker will use all required PPE. 5.
