YARD OPERATIVE AND DRIVER

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: May 2024
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 17:00 Plus 2 Saturdays per month (12:00 finish on Saturdays)
Salary: £12.75 – £15.00 per hour (depending on experience)

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a physically demanding, hands-on role
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Confident with power tools and general equipment
  • Comfortable using iPads, spreadsheets, and digital systems
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and dependable
  • Able to work well as part of a close-knit team
  • Willing to stay away from home occasionally for overnight jobs
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is not your average yard operative job.
As a Scrap Metal Processor & Operative, you’ll be working across multiple areas of the business — from serving trade customers and sorting metal to supporting collections and using our digital software for stock and transaction management. You’ll operate tools and machinery (with training provided), assist with non-ferrous scrap processing, and occasionally carry out local collections in a 3.5T flatbed or Luton van.
You may also act as a driver’s mate in our 12T lorry and will be expected to stay away overnight when required (expenses covered). This is a varied and hands-on role that offers great potential for personal growth and professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process, weigh, and sort a wide range of non-ferrous materials
  • Serve customers and support them in grading their scrap metal
  • Use the forklift (training provided) to move material and bins around the yard
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised working environment
  • Carry out local collections in a 3.5T flatbed or Luton van
  • Act as a driver’s mate in the 12T lorry when required
  • Use our digital metal management software to:
  • Record weights and materials
  • Manage stock levelsCreate waste transfer notes and documents
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times
