Experience in laboratory environments, R&D, or high-tech industries is a strong asset.

  • Looks to keep trained to keep good level of competency, particularly in advanced maintenance techniques, automation, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Works methodically, is able to organise own work, and meets deadlines, with a focus on efficiency in handling research-related tasks.
  • Good knowledge of internal processes related to their files of expertise and other related areas. Experience in handling research equipment, precision instruments, and controlled environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of operational methods, systems, and practices for managing inventory and deliveries, including specialized equipment required for scientific applications.
  • Good time-management and organizational skills, able to prioritize urgent interventions while maintaining long-term maintenance planning.
  • High internal and external client orientation, with a strong ability to adapt to researchers’ needs and provide technical expertise for experimental work.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of operational objectives of their team. Performs routine and non-routine platform/laboratory procedures or tasks with autonomy and under limited supervision (e.g., sampling and testing, quality control of samples taken, filtering/cleaning/recording data, assistance for analytical tasks, etc.).
  • Keeps tools (such as vacuum pumps, high-precision instruments, and automation systems), equipment, and lab/platform installations in proper working order and carries out general maintenance. May replace parts when necessary. Ensures the proper functioning of gas supply systems and cryogenic storage units.
  • Contributes to the administration of equipment and materials, and the control of stocks, including managing critical spare parts and consumables essential to research operations.
  • Organizes their own work to comply with deadlines and workplans of missions, adapting to the dynamic nature of R&D activities.
  • Documents their work through manuals, experiment sheets, or reports that are predefined, with a focus on traceability and reproducibility of experiments.
  • Problems and issues faced can be non-routine and may require some analysis to understand and resolve. May require the support of more senior colleagues or supervisor. In a research setting, this includes troubleshooting complex laboratory systems, identifying failures in equipment performance, and liaising with specialists or suppliers when needed.
  • Proposes improvements to methods or processes. Discuss feasibility of proposals with team supervisor or more experienced technicians, particularly in optimizing laboratory workflows, enhancing measurement accuracy, and ensuring better equipment longevity.
