Description

Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis.
Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We’re a “best of both worlds” kind of company. We’re big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact.

AT GROUPON, WE BELIEVE LOCAL EXPERIENCES ARE THE HEART OF A VIBRANT LIFE — AND WE’RE BUILDING THE DATA PLATFORMS TO POWER THEM.

We’re a global team with a startup spirit and a marketplace legacy. Groupon helps people discover the best a city has to offer — from local businesses and live events to unique travel experiences. Behind it all, our Data Engineering team ensures we harness data to drive smart decisions, scalable platforms, and meaningful customer impact.
We’re looking for a senior-level Data Engineer with a passion for building powerful data solutions, who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment and is eager to tackle challenges at scale.

Responsibilities

❓WHY THIS ROLE?

As a Data Engineer at Groupon, you’ll be part of a globally distributed team of 13 engineers powering data infrastructure that spans petabytes, hundreds of pipelines, and cloud platforms like AWS and GCP. You’ll work closely with product managers, analysts, machine learning engineers, and fellow data experts to build the systems that keep our marketplace fast, reliable, and smart.

You’ll have the chance to:

  • Own core data ingestion and transformation pipelines across streaming and batch systems
  • Work on both greenfield projects and robust production systems
  • Dive into technologies like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Delta Lake, Teradata, BigQuery, and Hive
  • Solve real business problems for marketing, finance, supply chain, and more
  • Be part of a flexible, supportive, and growth-oriented engineering culture

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, high-volume ETL pipelines (batch and streaming)
  • Build and optimize cloud-based data platforms on AWS and GCP
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and implement scalable solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team culture
  • Own data quality, lineage, monitoring, and production support for critical pipelines
  • Participate in on-call rotations and agile delivery cycles
