Spruce Point Inn is seeking experienced and hospitality-driven Boat Captains to operate the Inn’s guest vessel for scenic harbor cruises, island transportation, and private charter experiences. This role is a key part of delivering a memorable, high-end coastal experience for our guests. Captains will safely operate the vessel in and around Boothbay Harbor and surrounding islands, ensuring all trips meet the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and guest service. Key Responsibilities * Safely operate the Inn’s vessel in accordance with all United States Coast Guard regulations and company policies * Navigate harbor and near coastal waters, including transport to and from local islands * Conduct pre-departure safety briefings and ensure all safety equipment is onboard and operational * Monitor weather and sea conditions to ensure safe operations at all times * Deliver a polished, engaging guest experience (narration, local knowledge, hospitality touchpoints) * Assist guests boarding and disembarking the vessel safely * Maintain vessel cleanliness, presentation, and readiness for service * Coordinate with resort leadership on daily schedules, private charters, and special events * Complete daily logs, safety checklists, and incident reports as required * Support light vessel maintenance and communicate any mechanical or safety concerns ---------------------------------------- Qualifications & Requirements Licensing & Certifications: * Valid USCG Master Captain License – Near Coastal (required) * Minimum 360 days of documented sea time * Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) * Current USCG Medical Certificate * Enrollment in a USCG-compliant random drug testing program * Current CPR and First Aid Certification Experience: * Prior experience operating passenger vessels in harbor or near coastal environments * Strong knowledge of local waters (Boothbay Harbor and surrounding areas preferred) * Experience with inspected passenger vessels (COI vessels) preferred ---------------------------------------- Skills & Attributes * Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance * Excellent communication and guest service skills * Professional, calm demeanor under pressure * Ability to make sound decisions in changing weather and marine conditions * Team-oriented with strong coordination skills across departments * Passion for creating memorable guest experiences ---------------------------------------- Work Environment & Schedule * Seasonal role (May through October) * Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings * Outdoor role exposed to varying weather conditions * Extended periods of standing and vessel operation * Ability to row from mooring to slip ---------------------------------------- Compensation & Benefits * Competitive seasonal compensation * Potential for gratuities on private charters and guest experiences * Complimentary employee meals Physical Demands * This is a physically demanding job that requires extended periods of walking and standing with some bending and lifting.
