Position Title:     Seasonal GAP Tier 4 Apprentice Department:       Children’s Education  Reports to:         Garden Apprentice Program Coordinators  Training:            Saturdays, March 7, 21, 28 | 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.   Program:            March-November (spring training, summer programming, and a weekly commitment throughout the spring and fall) Compensation:   $17 per hour  Application Deadline: December 5, 2025 Position Description: Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Children’s Education programs are world renowned for teaching hands-on gardening and plant science to children and teens. The Garden Apprentice Program is a youth development program for teens in grades 9–12 who are interested in plants, science, and environmental education. Tier 4 apprentices build skills in horticulture while learning to be environmental educators. Primary Responsibilities: * Work alongside an adult instructor and a Tier 1 apprentice in the Children’s Garden, helping lead garden-based activities for children ages 4–13 in our afterschool and weekend programs.  * Serve as a community builder and role model within the GAP cohort by modeling good behavior, punctuality, inclusiveness, and professionalism. * Communicate promptly with GAP coordinators and other supervisors regarding any issues (behavioral, interpersonal, work-related) you become aware of within the GAP community.  * Take an active leadership role in mentoring and including/integrating other apprentices, particularly new apprentices, as well as teams of apprentices during horticulture time and all other GAP placements.
