Position Purpose: Provide an excellent skating experience for customers at the Manhattan Ice Rink by providing patrons with the equipment necessary to skate, ensuring safety while on the ice, and answering customer questions. Job Duties Issue equipment to patrons upon arrival and clean equipment upon exit. Ensure patrons follow rules and participate safely. Perform necessary ice work, including scraping off excess snow on ice, fixing cracks and holes, and re-surfacing when needed. Maintain clean workspaces, restrooms, and rink for staff and patrons. Follow directions from the MPRD supervisor, Ice Rink manager, and Skating Lesson supervisor. Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy that reflects the MPRD’s mission. Establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with other employees, department personnel, and the public (skaters, parents, etc.). Engage with these individuals in a helpful, courteous, and respectful manner. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Additional Qualifications Customer service experience. Preferred Knowledge and Skills Ice skating experience or instruction on skating techniques, either hockey or figure. Other Information This is not a KPERS-covered position. As such, employees in this role will not work beyond 999 hours in a calendar year. Applicants must pass a background check. Staff will be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Ice rink is open October 30, 2026 - February 6, 2027.
