Position Title:        Seasonal Interpretation Tour Assistant Department:          Interpretation Reports to:            Manager of Interpretation FSLA Status:          Part-time Seasonal, Non-Exempt  Compensation:      $20 per hour Term:                     February 10–November 13, 2026   Position Description:    The Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) seasonal Interpretation tour assistant is responsible for supporting live interpretation efforts to welcome and serve visitors with a wide range of specific needs, accessibility accommodations, etc., and provide an engaging experience at the Garden. The assistant will provide hands-on support to staff and volunteer Garden Guides for tours and other interpretive programs including Discovery Garden and Access Initiatives.   Schedule:   Generally, the schedule is as follows, but this position requires flexibility to change to other hours/days as needed, including evenings.   February–June & September–November: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, 12–3 p.m.   July–August: Thursdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Plus additional days to be determined.   Responsibilities: * Support volunteer Garden Guide tours with listening devices and assistance. * Help maintain, store, and organize listening devices. * Greet and welcome visitors and groups to tours and distribute listening devices. * Install updated tour signs and information. * Assist with Garden Guide volunteer continuing education workshops and trainings. * Learn BBG tour information and be able to lead a 60-minute tour if needed. * Prepare and organize program materials for Access and Discovery Garden programs. * Support the Interpretation department including Discovery Garden, Access Initiative programs, and weekend Garden staff as needed. * Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.   Qualifications:  * Experience working for a cultural organization * Able to work independently and on a team, exercising punctuality, reliability, and flexibility * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Comfortable with public speaking to all audiences * Comfortable working outdoors and in glasshouse conditions * Able to traverse the Garden for an hour or more in various weather conditions * Friendly, outgoing, and flexible * Proactive with the public and volunteers * Love of plants and gardens and the natural world * Competent with Microsoft Office applications * Willing to learn BBG’s volunteer computer database program–Volgistics * Understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act * Able to adjust work schedule hours and days if needed   Benefits:  * BBG offers certain benefits to part-time employees including: * Up to 56 hours of sick leave * Short-term disability/New York Paid Family Leave   * As a 501(c)3, BBG is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Eligible Employer * Museum Pass, which provides employees the opportunity to enter many museums in New York City for free To be considered for this position, please submit an application by clicking Apply below. Applications submitted without a résumé and cover letter will not be considered.  No telephone calls for position inquiries, please. Applicants with disabilities who need assistance with the online system, or who may require a reasonable accommodation during the application process, should contact Human Resources at hr@bbg.org [hr@bbg.org].  Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
