Position Overview: As a Seasonal Labourer, individuals work outdoors in all weather conditions and are responsible for performing the day-to-day maintenance of City roadways, sidewalks, parks, cemeteries, City trees, public grounds, facilities and more. From spring to fall, work is primarily labour-focused (i.e., grounds keeping and maintenance); in the winter, work is “on-call” to start and driver-focused (i.e., snow plowing and sanding) for those with a DZ licence. This position falls under the operational umbrella of two divisions - Municipal Works and Recreation, Culture and Facilities - which are responsible for a multitude of public services in the City of Niagara Falls including the design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City’s infrastructure. Our operations are 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Individuals work 80 hours bi-weekly (spring to fall) and must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, evenings, statutory holidays, and be available for call-in emergencies (e.g. snowplow operations, extreme weather events). Key Responsibilities and Duties: The following is not a complete list of the responsibilities and duties but rather is intended as an example of core tasks: loading and unloading trucks (lifting heavy objects) assisting with traffic control cutting grass and weeds athletic field and playground maintenance ditching gardening litter pickup illegal dump site cleanup due to trespassing raking leaves work site cleanup assist with forestry operations such as brush chipping, stumping, and tree planting may work with cement and asphalt hauling in single, tandem and tri-axle trucks (DZ Licence required) snow plowing, sanding, brine application and salting (DZ Licence required) Qualifications: Valid Ontario G or DZ Driver’s Licence with an acceptable driving record (DZ licence preferred) Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent Current First Aid/CPR (preferred) Heavy Equipment Operator certificate (preferred) Book 7 (preferred) Skills and Experience: Capable of carrying out a variety of physical duties and repetitive tasks. Able to work shift/flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays as required. Knowledge of safe work procedures. Customer service focused and willing to learn. Related experience (i.e., janitorial services, landscaping, asphalt and concrete maintenance and snow removal) is considered an asset. Pay Rates: (2026 hourly rates vary based on qualifications and work performed) Labourer with G licence - $26.45 per hour Labourer with DZ licence and driving assignments – $27.79 to $35.69 per hour Individuals have the opportunity to join the OMERS pension plan and, after successful completion of the probation period, are eligible for benefits.
