Description
Overview The Seasonal Legislative Assistant will support Central Staff with the administrative and legislative support of the Boston City Council, the legislative body for the City of Boston. Responsibilities Throughout the course of this 90-day appointment, responsibilities may include: Providing staff support for committees, including scheduling & staffing hearings, filing & posting notices, and preparing minutes and committee reports. Preparing Council Chamber & Meeting rooms for all Council sessions and hearings. Working in a Legislative team environment to ensure adequate coverage and support services to all Committees. Maintaining accurate and complete hearing files and preparing the same for permanent archiving. Conducting research, supporting legislative drafting, and tracking information relative to issues before the city council, including legislation from other governmental bodies and agencies, interdepartmental information, media reports, and statistics. Drafting newsletter articles and updates on the work of the council. Supporting the maintenance of legislative databases and online resources. Supporting the administration and operations of the council, including switchboard operation, reception coverage, constituent triage, filing, and inventory maintenance. Assists and acts in a confidential capacity to City Councilors and the Staff Director. Special projects and other duties as assigned. Minimum Entrance Qualifications Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines. Ability to follow directions; attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Excellent interpersonal skills. Aptitude and ability to learn. Excitement and curiosity about public service. BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: Non-Union/$24 per hour Hours per week: 35 Start dates in May/June for a 90-day appointment
