  Position Information Current Title                                 Seasonal Librarian Position Assignment                   Youth & Teen Department                                  Community Services Division                                         Library FLSA                                              Non-Exempt    Pay Rate                                        $26.80 per hour    Job Summary Provides reference and information assistance in person and over the phone, plans and implements Library programming activities, provides instruction to patrons in using Library computers and equipment and assists in providing work guidance to Library assistants, aides, and volunteers. Assignments may vary according to organizational needs. This position requires working some evenings and Saturdays.  Essential Job Functions 1. Provides reference, information, referral, and reader’s advisory services. 2. Provides instruction on using print resources, the Internet, and online databases. 3. Manages program budgets and makes budgetary recommendations. 4. Identifies and secures resources to support Library programs and community engagement, including writing and administering grants and soliciting community donations in support of Library programs.  5. Collects and submits program statistical data. 6. Reviews and recommends Library materials for purchase. 7. Designs, prepares, and maintains displays, flyers, signs, and other publicity, including a variety of social media, in coordination with Library committees and management. 8. Attends professional meetings and represents the Library in the City and the community. Participates in community events to promote the Library. Partners with other City departments, including Senior Center, Recreation, etc. to promote the Library. 9. Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis. 10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate. 11. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. 12. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work When Assigned to Youth Services 1. Plans and implements programs for children, teens, and families, including Summer Reading Club, story times, and STEAM activities. 2. Develops and maintains relationships with local schools to provide Library services and programs. 3. Assists in the weeding, maintenance, and marketing of the Youth and Teen collections. 4. Processes new Youth and Teen items after cataloging.  5. Oversees book displays and bibliographies for Youth and Teen Services. 6. Assumes supervision of the Youth and Teen Services Department in the absence of management. Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements * ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science required.  * One year directly related experience required. * Previous experience in a municipal government or public agency setting is preferred.  * Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays. * Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.  * Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
