JOB SUMMARY The DoSeum is seeking a preservice teacher available May through August, who will collaborate with DoSeum educators to promote joyful learning and active discovery through a variety of meaningful interactions with on-site summer camp students. The Resident Teacher will engage learners of all abilities in The Doseum Experience, fostering educational play and inquiry-based learning in the museum’s popular camp program, both in classroom and gallery environments. Additional duties will include professionally communicating with caregivers about their child’s performance and behavior, prepping and resetting instructional materials each week, and constructive daily reflection with fellow camp instructors. This position will engage in bidirectional professional development; the Resident Teacher will share and model best practices from their preservice teaching program with our staff, while also adopting best practices in informal and constructivist education as shared and modeled by DoSeum educators. Successful candidates are personable and approachable, project positive energy, present in the moment, adaptable, and must have strong people and problem-solving skills. They are respectful to Guests and fellow Staff. Prior experience teaching young children is highly valued, as is the ability to play with confidence and without hesitation. Delivering authentic, memorable, and delightful experiences for every learner is key to the position’s success. Reporting to the Associate Director of Program Design & Evaluation, this is a seasonal, hourly, non-exempt position with variable weekly hours based on camp scheduling. Candidates are not required to work the full duration of the summer and may commit to a minimum of three (3) full camp weeks (Monday – Friday), which may be consecutive or nonconsecutive.  ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Instruction & Facilitation * Teach and support curriculum designed by DoSeum Educators. * Facilitate inquiry-based learning through play in classroom and gallery settings. * Engage learners of varying abilities in meaningful, hands-on educational experiences * Travel with camp group to field trip destinations as needed. Student Supervision & Safety * Support supervision of children ages 5-11 across all environments. * Support the supervision and engagement of a group of up to 12 students, with guidance from The Doseum staff as needed. * Assist with daily routines including transition, meals, and pick-up/drop-ff. * Follow all DoSeum safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe and positive experience for all campers. Program Operations * Prepare, organize, and reset materials for camp programing. * Maintaining organized, clean, and ready to use learning environments * Attend trainings and coaching sessions. Family Engagement * Communicate professionally with caregivers regarding student experience. * Represent The DoSeum in a welcoming and guest-focused manner. * Perform additional duties as required or requested. PROFESSINAL DEVELOPMENT & GROWTH * Participate in coaching and feedback sessions. * Observe and apply best practices in informal learning, * Engage in reflective practice, to support personal and professional growth. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Currently enrolled in college or university, or interested in pursuing, a degree in education or a related field preferred. * Experience working with children in any setting (e.g., classroom, camp, volunteer, childcare, peer mentoring) preferred but not required. * Available for a minimum of three full weeks of camp instruction and present for the entirety of each week (Monday – Friday). * Demonstrates enthusiasm for working with children and a positive, approachable presence; brings creativity, adaptability, and a willingness to engage in play-based learning. * Basic comfort with computers (Mac and PC) and classroom technology, or willingness to learn and be trained. * Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle available for local travel. * Ability to successfully complete a background screening in accordance with organizational and licensing requirements.
