Description
The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a Seasonal River Monitor this Summer!   SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, ensure that the overall goals of the Snake River Management Plan are being met. Explains regulations concerning the river management plan, checks in commercial outfitters, identifies management problems, communicates those problems to the supervisor, and recommends solutions to enhance the program. Provides Department and program support by coordinating, supervising, and planning recreation programs.   PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Maintains daily records of outfitter use levels, types, and patterns of use; checks guides for compliance with Snake River Management Plan. * Inspects outfitter operations and takes necessary follow-up actions for items of non-compliance; issues notices of violations as appropriate; makes recommendations to supervisors regarding violations. * Performs routine maintenance at recreation sites, including site clean-up; identifies management problems and suggests solutions to enhance the effectiveness of the program. * Limited coordination with Administration on launch schedules and river guide-related concerns related to permitting and ramp usage * Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Education and Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of recreation programming experience or river rafting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Required Licenses and Certifications: * Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record. * Must possess CPR certification, or ability to obtain within two (2) months of hire. Required Knowledge of: * Proper use of basic power tools, hand tools and equipment * Principles and practices of commercial raft operations. * Safety practices, policies, and procedures related to river usage. * Project and time management methods. * Principles and practices of effective  communication. * State and local laws, codes, and regulations related to outfitting and outdoor recreation. Required Skills in: * Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and commercial outfitters during daily operations. * Operating a personal computer and iPad utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software. * Maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude in stressful situations. * Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.  Physical Demands/Work Environment: * Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; requires constant physical efforts and may be exposed to dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. May be exposed to dangerous situations when required to assist commercial rafts; safety procedures must be followed, including the use of proper safety equipment. * Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Responsibilities
The Seasonal River Monitor ensures compliance with the Snake River Management Plan by monitoring commercial outfitters and issuing violation notices. They also perform routine site maintenance and coordinate with administration regarding launch schedules and river usage.
