The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing care for critically injured and orphaned local wildlife. This position provides intake and direct care to wildlife patients including restraint, handling, diet preparation, animal husbandry, accurate record keeping and physical exams. What you’ll do: Safely handle and identify injured, ill and orphaned wild animals upon intake Prepare diets and follow daily schedules for feedings and provide daily cleaning of patients, equipment and the facility Identify and alert veterinary team to possible contagious illness or medical conditions; identify and use good judgment to alert veterinary team to all other patient medical concerns Follow all quarantine and isolation guidelines and protocols, including utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Safely operate Society vehicles to transport patients between SDHS locations and the Bahde Wildlife Center, and to release sites Maintain detailed written medical records and patient updates in the medical database (WRMD) What we’re looking for: High School graduation or equivalent required; advanced learning certificate(s) or degree in related field preferred. Prior experience in an animal welfare and/or shelter environment or equivalent field, with wildlife experience preferred. A general knowledge of rehabilitation, conservation and federal/state wildlife laws preferred. In accordance with CDC and ACIP guidelines, must be willing to follow appropriate rabies pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) vaccine and titer check recommendations. May be required to obtain Vet Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP) in accordance with the provisions of the CA Veterinary Medical Board. Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes. Location & Hours: Based at our Ramona Campus. This position works 40 hours a week. We are currently hiring for Seasonal positions that will be scheduled to begin between March and June and will last for approximately 5 months after starting. Pay: Starting range is between $20.00 - $22.25 per hour. The actual hourly rate is determined by your related education and experience. The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
