MADEC is an approved employer under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, an initiative of the Australian Government. This program provides relief to people experiencing poverty and disadvantage from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste, by providing employment opportunities with Australian employers in selected industries/sectors. It also has the dual benefit of providing employers with a reliable return workforce sourced to assist in meeting unmet labour demands, when there is not enough local Australian labour to meet seasonal demand.

Responsibilities

You will be the workers key point of contact and will provide care and support to ensure they assimilate into their local environment, the workplace, and to build skills required for independent living in a new country. Each day will be different, but your core responsibilities will include:

  • Addressing worker enquiries which will be varied, and assisting workers to build skills to resolve their concerns independently;
  • Building trust and strong relationships with worker to ensure any matters of concern are understood and addressed;
  • Assisting workers with access to services required (eg; medical);
  • Acting as a communication conduit between workers, our client (the host employer) and MADEC; and
  • Identifying any risks to worker wellbeing and escalate as required.

This is a casual role and the hours offered will vary given the seasonal nature of the industry however you can expect to work an average of approximately 25 hours per week, and these hours will increase during the peak season. You will be required to be flexible with your working hours and available for out of hours work, including weekends. We, in turn, can offer flexibility with your working arrangements so that it works both ways!
