POSITION SUMMARY:

The 2nd Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner. The 2nd Cook must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. 2nd Cook must be prepared to work as a team member in a dynamic workplace, follow all safety procedures, and have a high threshold for heat in a kitchen environment.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen required.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills to effectively communicate with all residents, visitors and at all levels within the organization required.
  • Formal training in a culinary program considered an asset.
  • Experience cooking for seniors an asset.
  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation, WHMIS, Food Safety
  • Basic food safety is required.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Proper knowledge for use and maintenance of all equipment in station.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and cooks all food (hot and cold) as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.
  • Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Head Chef.
  • Cleans and maintains station in practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills.
  • Prepare dishes for residents with food allergies or intolerances.
  • Ensure timely preparation of all meals.
  • Ensure that the correct quantities are prepared to meet daily needs.
  • Ensure food is stored in appropriate containers, labeled, and rotated to ensure high standards of freshness, minimizing waste and maximizing quality.
