Second Engineer – Factory Freezer Trawler

Fame Fisheries Limited is currently seeking qualified candidates for Second Engineer positions onboard our factory freezer trawler, M/V Newfoundland Victor.

The Second Engineer serves as an Engineering Officer of the Watch and assists the Chief Engineer in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and management of the Engine Department. Must hold the appropriate certification and demonstrate the competence required to relieve the Chief Engineer when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Transport Canada Second-class , Motor Ship certificate with STCW endorsement, or equivalent certificate acceptable to TCRequired Marine Emergency Duties (MED) and survival trainingStrong technical background and practical experience with common marine machinery and systemsDemonstrated supervisory and management skillsMinimum three years of experience in a similar position is considered an assetExperience with marine refrigeration systems and factory processing equipment is considered an asset

Responsibilities

The Second Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Serving as Engineering Officer of the Watch and supervising the operation and maintenance of machinery, refrigeration systems, auxiliary equipment, and fish-processing plantCarrying out and supervising planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairsSupervising engine-room personnel during assigned watches and maintenance activitiesAssisting the Chief Engineer with the planning and coordination of maintenance activitiesAdvising the Chief Engineer regarding the ordering and inventory of spare parts, stores, and consumablesEnsuring that all work within the Engine Department is carried out safely and efficiently and in accordance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and good marine engineering practiceMaintaining the safety and operational integrity of the Engine Department during assigned watches

Rotation and Benefits

The position operates on a rotation of approximately two trips onboard (approximately 46days) followed by two trips off, with some flexibility depending on vessel operations.
