Date Updated: February 24, 2022 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective The primary objectives of the Secondary Teaching position are to teach students in a specific subject; to train young people by modeling and expecting particular Christian character traits and appropriate levels of Christian scholarship. This position must agree with and support the Faculty/Board Member's Covenant and agree with/help fulfill CHA's Mission Statement. Essential Functions (Responsibilities and Tasks) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Writes a classroom constitution explaining classroom policies and procedures for students. Attends Professional Development training and devotions throughout the year including Wednesday afternoons explaining the school's philosophy, curriculum, and methodology. Complete any Principle Approach assignments within the given school year. Create course documents to keep online. Seeks to role-model in speech, actions, and attitudes a Christ-like spirit in all that is done. Shows by example the importance of all Christian virtues. Follows the CHA's Conflict Resolution Policy in dealing with staff, administration, students, and parents in regard to disagreements or misunderstandings. Recognizes the role of parents as primarily responsible for their children's education and seeks in every way to assist them in this process. Seeks to follow and implement the school's philosophy and methodology (Principal Approach) outlined in various publications. Plans a program of study that meets the school standards and needs of the students. Maintains punctuality and professionalism in all dealings with students and parents. Prepares weekly lesson plans as directed by the area-level headmaster. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and reports progress to the students and parents. Takes all precautions necessary to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Seeks to become familiar with all policies and procedures in the Faculty Handbook and Parent-Teacher Handbook. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by CHA policy and administrative regulations. Attends staff meetings, committee meetings, and all other meetings that are required by the administration. Performs extra duties as deemed necessary, such as gate duty, lunch duty, before-school duty, etc. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level of the student as listed in the Faculty Handbook under Minimum Classroom Government Requirements. Requires each student to produce a notebook for each class with minimum standards listed in the Faculty Handbook. Flexible availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, 10-month salary position, payable on a 12-month pay schedule. Days and hours are M - F from 7:35 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Summer hours if needed will be paid on an hourly basis. Performance Standards This position will be evaluated by standards set by the Headmaster and appropriate area level Headmaster. A regular visitation and reporting procedure has been established. Travel Rare travel required for conferences or additional training. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The school is currently a multi-level facility, which requires this position to navigate flights of stairs regularly to meet responsibilities as it relates to the school. Talking - must be able to express ideas and speak clearly and orally in person or over the phone to parents, students and/or other employees. Hearing – ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and to receive detailed information through oral communication. Close visual acuity required for viewing a computer monitor, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and reading. Standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time, moving about on foot for lecturing and monitoring students in the classroom, as well as throughout the building. Regularly sitting at the computer requiring dexterity of hands and fingers. Occasional lifting of at least 25 pounds. Environment is primarily indoors in a classroom environment. Required Education Bachelor's degree in education and/or equivalent required subject hours. Must obtain/maintain ACSI certification.
