Description:

Recognized for its diversity, dedication to inclusion, and strong partnerships with the community, the Richmond School District is among one of the largest districts in British Columbia with some of the highest graduation rates in the province. With a long history of providing high quality experiences for students, the Richmond School District strives to be “The Best Place to Learn and Lead.”
This is a full-time counselling position at Richmond Secondary School. The successful candidate must have training and experience in personal counselling with an emphasis on adolescent mental health issues, peer mediation, conflict resolution, self-esteem as well as an understanding of diverse personal, family and cultural issues. This position requires a teacher-counsellor who has consistently established supportive and open working relationships and is able to work as part of a collaborative team.
RHS counsellors regularly collaborate and consult with other counsellors, teachers, parents and administrators and assist in the coordination of services as a member of the School Based Team and as a support liaison with outside agencies for referral purposes. The successful candidate must have a willingness and ability to build caring relationships with a wide range of students, including those who are emotionally and behaviourally at-risk. Genuine and effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential. A strong knowledge base in counselling adolescents in career and academic options, including course selection and related program planning for both the provincial and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and a wide variety of post-secondary pathways is required.
The successful applicant will be knowledgeable and comfortable working with an online administrative software program (MyEducation BC) for balancing classes, scheduling students and tracking students’ marks data and graduation status. It is expected that the applicant will be available to meet with students, parents and others beyond the bell schedule and occasionally provide evening presentations to parents regarding adolescent issues, program planning and post-secondary options.
Due to the volume of applications we receive, ONLY those selected for an interview will be contacted.
The Richmond School District is committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the community we so proudly serve. Our ability to provide the best education for our student population relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences. Indigenous applicants, people of colour, all genders, 2SLGTBQ+ and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to those applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Metis) as part of their application
