Key Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports student learning and well-being
  • Plan and deliver secondary humanities instruction aligned with Alberta curriculum outcomes (e.g., junior high and/or high school English)
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to support conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Integrate technology (e.g., SMART Boards, graphing tools, online platforms) into humanities instruction
  • Assess and evaluate student progress; maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents
  • Prepare course outlines and lesson plans aligned with curriculum guidelines
  • Maintain strong classroom management and a calm, professional approach in a dynamic environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the broader community
  • Contribute positively to a faith-based, culturally diverse school environment

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or higher from an accredited institution (or equivalent), with a focus or specialization in English preferred
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Interim Professional Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of secondary humanities curriculum and instructional practices
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven classroom management abilities
  • Understanding of current, research-based teaching strategies in humanities education
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student success
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment
  • Experience in a faith-based or culturally diverse school setting is an asset
