Department/Location:   110 - Service/NSO Offices “Nationwide” Job Title:    Secretary II  Reports To:   NSO Supervisor/ NAO Supervisor  Salary Grade: (Grades are determined based on structure and workflow of the location)   ý Secretary II – Grade 7 ($15.66 - $24.38/hour) Type of position:   ý Full-time           o Part-time   Minimum Hours: 40 hrs/week     o Exempt                ý Non-Exempt   Job Summary: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.   Secretaries provide routine administrative and secretarial support to National Service Officers including reception activities, correspondence, reports, and records maintenance.  May perform duties of a sensitive and confidential nature. Essential Functions:   * Operate personal computer to access the internet, e-mail, electronic calendars and other office support software * Type correspondence and reports using personal computer * Locate and compile information, written correspondence, reports and tables/charts using knowledge of scientific, medical, legal or other technical terms * Establish and maintain office/clientele files * Answer telephone, screen callers, relay messages, greet visitors and answer general veterans’ benefits questions * Open, sort and screen mail * Handle membership payments  * Pick up and deliver materials as required * Operate office equipment such as photocopier and facsimile machine * Performs other support staff activities as directed by office Supervisor(s) and Lead Secretary Essential Skills and Experience:   * High school diploma (or equivalent) * Understanding of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communications, office systems and keeping record * Must have good communication skills.  Professionally and diplomatically, communicate with people inside/outside the organization.  This communication of information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone, facsimile or e-mail * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (proficient level skills preferred)  * Able to type 50 words per minute or more accurately  * General knowledge of legal and/or medical terminology preferred Degree of Supervision:   * No Supervisory Responsibilities  Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.     Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   * Physical Demands:  Job requires sitting up to eight hours a day and standing up to two to four hours a day.  Body movement primarily in hand and arm functions associated with normal office activities.  Hand and eye coordination, and hand dexterity is required for handwriting and keyboarding over prolonged periods of time.  Requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of no more than 25 pounds, and bending, squatting, pushing and pulling.   * Work Environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
