EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Minimum of a two (2) year diploma in Law and Security, Police Foundations, Corrections, Community Justice or Protection or Security and Investigation or equivalent.
  • Current Ontario Security License (Ministry of Community and Correctional Services Certification for Security Guard as regulated by the PSISA (Private Security & Investigative Services Act)) is required.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR level C is required.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps” training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working as a Security Guard is preferred.
  • Experience in health care setting is preferred.

  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high level of customer-centered service that reflects the established training standard.
  • Adhere to established standards of work, established policies & procedures and HSN employee Code of Conduct.
  • Act as First Responder in emergency code events.
  • Conduct complete tours of the entire facility, including in-patient units, to demonstrate presence to staff, visitors and patients.
  • Respond to all requests for security support including in-patient care areas, public spaces and on property.
  • Observe patients, visitors and staff for escalating behavior and intervene using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Crisis and Restraint Management principles.
  • Conduct regular Threat Risk Assessment of assigned area. Intervene immediately to safeguard the well-being of any person.
  • Respond to, investigate and assist with any patient, visitor or staff injuries occurring on property (i.e. walkways, entrances, parking lots, etc.) upon notification or discovery, as per HSN policies and procedures.
  • Support management and maintain confidentiality of sensitive staff information of internal investigations, incidents, parking violations and escorts of relieved staff members at the direction of the Manager or Emergency Preparedness and Security Services.
  • Support HSN in ensuring staff, patients and visitors are in compliance with parking policy in accordance with the City of Sudbury By-Law Enforcement rules/regulations, enforcement and attend court in the capacity of By-Law Enforcement Officer as required.
  • Conduct complete perimeter tours of the facility, reporting any identified hazards and implement risk mitigations related to theft or threats.
  • Assist the Facilities Management group with the maintenance and operations of parking lot systems across the sites.
  • Conduct life safety system checks (i.e. fire systems, elevator systems, alarm systems and Helipad).
  • Assist clinical staff with patient management as requested (i.e. observation, arranging separate patient watch, visitor management and enforcement, calling police, seclusion, etc.).
  • Conduct audits and inspections of work area, report any risks, hazards or unsafe situations and ensure necessary action is taken to correct the problem.
  • Complete incident reports, morgue calls, door unlocks, and most other duties or services provided by Security Services.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in hospital training as required.
  • Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
