Evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight shifts may be required. Travel Required: None POSITION SUMMARY The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, visitors, and campus property. The Security Officer provides a visible security presence, conducts patrols, responds to incidents and emergencies, enforces campus policies, and assists members of the Benedictine College community in a professional and service-oriented manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, grounds, parking lots, and other College property. Monitor and control access to campus facilities, including verifying identification and responding to access-related concerns. Respond to incidents involving safety, security, medical emergencies, suspicious activity, alarms, and other campus concerns. Complete accurate and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation. Assist students, employees, and visitors by providing information, directions, and support when appropriate. Observe and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and violations of College policies. Assist with special events, crowd management, traffic control, and emergency response activities as assigned. Operate College vehicles and security equipment in accordance with College policies. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and records. Work cooperatively with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and other College departments when necessary. Adhere to all College policies, procedures, and professional conduct standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong observation and situational awareness skills. Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies and stressful situations. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear reports. Basic computer proficiency, including email, reporting systems, and standard office software. Ability to interpret and follow College policies, procedures, and safety protocols. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required. Ability to successfully complete required background checks. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as assigned. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS One year of experience in security, campus safety, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, or a related field. CPR, First Aid, or AED certification. Experience working in a higher education environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods of time. Ability to climb stairs and navigate campus buildings and grounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a college campus environment. Security Officers may be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise levels, and emergency situations requiring prompt response and sound judgment.
