ABOUT YOU – ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a security role or a similar environment with transferable skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, particularly in English Language.
  • Hold a valid SIA ‘Security Guarding’ or, preferably a ‘Door Supervision’ licence, or be capable of achieving this within three months of starting the role (training and renewal costs will be covered by the University post-probation).
  • Demonstrate the competencies outlined in the Person Specification of the aligned Job Description.
  • Meet the expectations outlined in the ‘Special Requirements’ and ‘Expectations of All Staff’ sections of the Job Description.
  • Be available to work on a rotating shift pattern.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As part of our operational security team, you’ll deliver, professional, efficient, and approachable safety guidance and security services. You’ll be a visible and reassuring presence, consistently delivering exceptional customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
You’ll also work closely with management to support the University’s wider goals, using your skills and experience to enhance our service bringing innovative ideas, best practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus while protecting University assets and interests.
  • Provide friendly, professional, and effective front-line assistance, acting as an ambassador for the University.
  • Carry out a range of security duties, including responding to emergency situations and serving as a First Responder when required.
  • Be an active and reliable member of the operational security and reception teams.
  • Operate and monitor CCTV, alarm systems, and other security technologies from our state-of-the-art control rooms.
  • Handle all information with confidentiality, in accordance with the Data Protection Act/GDPR and Human Rights Act.
  • Identify and report any potential Health and Safety issues proactively.
  • Maintain a high standard of training and remain compliant with relevant legislation through ongoing professional development.
