POSITION SUMMARY

The Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (HU-MS²) is seeking a dedicated and reliable School Security Guard to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Security Guard will monitor the school premises, enforce safety protocols, and support the school community in fostering a positive, orderly environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience: 12 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field (required).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with security protocols, safety practices, and basic emergency response.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Must pass a background check and fingerprinting as required by DC regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and hallways to ensure a safe school environment.
  • Greet and screen visitors, verify identification, and issue visitor passes in accordance with school procedures.
  • Patrol school grounds and facilities regularly to deter and detect any unauthorized or unsafe activities.
  • Respond to security incidents, disturbances, and emergencies promptly and effectively.
  • Assist in implementing the school’s safety and emergency procedures, including drills.
  • Report any safety hazards, violations, or unusual occurrences to the Director of Operations and Human Resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of incidents, visitor logs, and daily activity reports.
  • Provide general assistance to staff, students, and visitors as needed while maintaining professionalism.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
