Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides customer service, de-escalation, monitors and ensures a safe environment and a safe response for our patients, staff, and visitors. Patrols property responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Local travel is required to be conducted between Shore Health System facilities and locations.
  Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - REQUIRED

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and proper cash handling ability.
• Current driver’s license and driving record meeting the minimum standards of the University of Maryland Medical System.
• Maryland State Unarmed Security Guard Certification, or obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Current CPR certification (must obtain within six months of hire).
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - PREFERRED

(Provide preferred education (include discipline(s). Provide the minimum years and type(s) of experience that is preferred (do not use a range). Provide preferred certifications and/or licensures)

• College education.
• Experience in the security field or related responsible experience with public contact.
• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic or Advanced certification

• Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
• Safeguard people, assets, and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with facility and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision. Works cross-functionally to ensure safe and secure environments.
• Interacts with people (staff, patients, visitors) and maintains designated security posts throughout the facility as directed.
• Responds promptly and courteously to calls for assistance by hospital /campus personnel. Performs public service duties as needed (i.e., wayfinding, escorts patients, visitors, or employees; assists persons; opens or locks doors; transports; assists with restraints; lifting of patients), as needed.
• Proficient in and utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors, and all others remain safe, calm and respected while onsite.
• Maintains consistent presence and visibility by performing facility patrols on a frequent basis insuring that: All open and functioning departments are secure and safe for patients, visitors, and personnel. All departments that are closed are locked and secure from intruders. Perimeter entrances and exits are secure at designated hours. Unauthorized persons do not enter the buildings during non‐visiting hours or congregate on the grounds.
• Required to acknowledge verbal transmissions and utilize professional communication verbiage.
• Immediately responds to calls for assistance (alarms, codes, and disasters) to control a safe environment, disorderly conduct, or combative individuals.
• Reports activities, incidents, and suspicious situations (circumstances, incidents, and persons), according to facility and department policy and procedures.
• Investigates security incidents and accidents. Assists in gathering information and evidence. Notifies appropriate authorities or superiors and calls for back-up assistance as necessary.
• Assists in maintaining department records, reports, and files as required.
• Maintains logs of activities on tour of duty.
• Provides written documentation of security activities and incidents (e.g., safety and hazards, accidents, theft, vandalism) and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
• Investigates reported incidents of unusual circumstances; writes incident reports; documents investigatory steps and results.
• Monitors security equipment, such as access control, cameras, panic buttons and patient protection alarms, and the like.
• Assists clinical staff in storing patient valuables in safe; to include appropriate department documentation requirements.
• Assists with maintaining current information in lost and found logs; notifies individuals when lost items are located.
• Operates security vehicles as necessary during the performance of job duties.
• Issues warnings for parking violations on Shore Regional Health grounds and reports employee violations.
• Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. Complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations; complies with all Joint Commission and other healthcare oversight regulatory requirements.
• Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
• Maintains a very neat and well‐groomed appearance. May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, evenings, days, and on holidays, weekends, or shifts other than that which is considered as the normal work shift. May also be required to work overtime hours.
• Maintains desired attendance level, arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch periods.
• Able to utilize Word, Outlook, and any other computer-based operating system necessary for completing job expectations.
• Performs related duties as assigned, such as:
• Assists staff and visitors with lock-out or vehicle maintenance issues.
• Activates helipad operations upon notification of inbound medevac flight. Escorts flight crew to and from patient location. Provides assistance (non-medical) as necessary to support the medevac crew.
• Monitors fire lanes, hydrants, and ambulance entrance free of vehicle blockage.
• Assists in transporting deceased individuals to/ from the hospital morgue and maintaining the Morgue Log.
  Assists with intake responsibilities for Emergency Petition and other patients identified as being at risk for self-harm or harm to others – to include stand by and/or 1:1 observation role during exigent circumstances.
