JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

Under the general direction of the Facilities/Security Director, and law enforcement liaison this position is responsible for providing security for patients, employees and visitors; protecting Hospital buildings, assets and patrolling interior and exterior premises as assigned. This position is filled with currently licensed (peace officers) public law enforcement will be able to assume the role and responsibilities of their public post, in the event of a national or local emergency or other similar incident as deemed appropriate by local, state and or federal law. In the absence of Facilities/Security Director, the Peace Officer on duty would be the responsible point of contact.

  • Consults with and keeps supervisors informed of activities, needs, and problems in assigned areas.
  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from Hospital personnel, students, and visitors; assists in intervening in physical confrontations with violent persons.
  • Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Escorts personnel to parking lots and Hospital buildings when requested.
  • Participates in investigations; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Responds to scene and provides necessary controls involving disasters, fires, alarms, codes, or emergency incidents and their associated drills.
  • Inspects and ascertains ownership of property being removed from campus.
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of City, State and Federal laws, ordinances, and regulations, and their functional process.
  • Utilizes all equipment in the Department effectively and safely with ability to train and supervise others in the use of this equipment.
  • Incident Reports and fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Maintains own professional growth through appropriate organizations, workshops, seminars, and other educational endeavors. Actively participates in Hospital and Departmental committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of services in the facility.
  • Ensures that problems or concerns regarding the Security Department and other related areas are communicated with the Facility/Security Director.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Required:Have met the certification standards set forth by the State requirements as it pertains to the use of authorized equipment. Must maintain requirements minimum of 40 hours of continuing education every 24 months.
  • Preferred:Minimum of one year experience as a security/law enforcement position in a healthcare environment or a military medical field.
