ABOUT YOU:

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our dynamic college in Uxbridge as the Operational Security Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a rapidly developing environment, with the chance to make a significant impact.
In this role, you will report to the Portal Security Operations Manager and be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of security services to protect the college’s assets, estate, and the safety of its community. You will manage the security team, ensuring resources align with operational needs, while collaborating with both the Portal and College management teams to support the college’s growth and development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • SIA Licensed – DS and CCTV preferrable
  • Safeguarding
  • Enhanced DBS
  • The ability to evidence, for vetting a 5-year employment history in line with BS7858
  • Previous experience in a security management/supervisory/ leadership role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing the duties required, including patrols and responding to incidents.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations.
  • Strong ability in the use of MS365 applications.
Responsibilities

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and oversee the College’s security service, serving as the primary point of contact for all security-related matters during operational hours.
  • Develop the Security team’s skills and foster relationships with College Support Services and key internal and external partners to enhance customer care, drive innovation, and identify new services.
  • Collaborate with the college community and student support teams to maintain and strategically develop community relations, safety, and security across both the College and local area.
  • Manage the College’s Traffic and Car Parking Policy, overseeing the safety, flow, and control of all vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic across campus, including coordination of traffic for special events.
  • Oversee the use and deployment of security equipment, including keys, locks, access control systems, intruder alarms, CCTV/ANPR, security radios, and parking systems; provide security advice to departments and projects.
  • Support the Security team’s potential through clear communication, sound decision-making, and regular briefings, meetings, and one-on-ones.
  • Lead recruitment, coaching, performance appraisals, and development of the Security team, fostering teamwork, high performance, and employee loyalty.
  • Coordinate with other departments and services to identify and address potential security risks.
  • Conduct site security assessments for buildings and operations, providing written reports and recommendations to relevant departments.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents reported through the Security Incident Reporting System, analyzing trends, patterns, and emerging threats.
  • Work closely with the Estates and Projects team to provide security guidance on building works and projects at key stages.
  • Liaise with local law enforcement and emergency services during on-site emergencies, building effective communication channels to enhance the College’s safety and security.
  • In collaboration with police and security agencies, inform senior management of any potential threats to College operations arising from national or international events.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the College’s emergency and business continuity plans.
  • Engage in relevant national and local associations to exchange best practices and represent the College.
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Portal Security Operations Manager.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Medical Support: Provide first aid assistance as needed, with an opportunity for the successful candidate to be trained in FPOS (First Person on Scene) or FREC (First Response Emergency Care) Level 3.
  • Fire Response: Actively support and participate in fire safety protocols, including conducting fire incident response and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Welfare and Support: Offer emotional and practical support to all students.
