Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.     Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.    We currently have an opportunity for a Security Specialist in Canberra to work on Joint projects.       What You’ll Do      This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:    * Review and strengthen security procedures, ensuring they meet organisational protection and compliance requirements.  * Develop clear guidelines for electronic device restrictions, defining rules for different classification or access levels.  * Work with leadership to finalise and align processes with broader organisational security policies and governance expectations.  * Define and document the agreed building‑entry and device‑handling processes, including access control measures for official laptops.  * Assess and refine facility‑based security controls, ensuring physical and procedural measures support overall security objectives.    What You’ll Bring    * Experience developing and implementing security protocols across ICT, facilities, and device‑restriction environments, supported by strong knowledge of physical and digital security best practices.  * Strong understanding of ICT security controls, including access management, device protection, and data‑security measures, with desirable Defence or CASG‑specific security exposure and relevant qualifications.  * Ability to operate effectively in Defence‑aligned security contexts, working independently, applying specialist security knowledge, and engaging confidently with stakeholders across regulated environments.  * Security specialist with prior experience in a CASG/Defence and familiarity with Defence-specific security needs and policies (desirable)  * Related degree or formal security controls qualifications (desirable)    Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
