Job Description
We are currently hiring a Security Specialist to join our Corporate Security Team in Halifax. Our Corporate Security Team members play a critical role in providing a safe and secure work environment. They actively monitor, assess and evolve security processes and protocols in real time to ensure compliance with government regulations and work with our internal teams on existing day-to-day activities. The Security Specialist is responsible for a number of key deliverables:

Alternate Company Security Officer (ACSO)

  • Hand carriage of classified information and proper record keeping in systems
  • Escort visitors in secure areas
  • Ensure training has been provided for lab staff for security protocols/compliance & work with the project manager to develop & maintain training material by auditing the managers records as required
  • Provide and maintain the required Security Awareness & Training
  • Administrative support to Security personnel - includes filing, printing, creating files, assisting with terminations
  • Assist with, or lead, internal security projects such as classified documents records system
  • Support internal investigations, as required
  • Assist security team with updating security management systems on an as-required basis
  • Review incident reports, analyzing the impact and producing clear summaries for decision makers and handling initial investigations on security and safety breaches and liaising with departments to address security exposures
  • Implementing security procedures and policies, taking into consideration high-risk areas of exposure and ensuring proper security is maintained
  • Provide support to security team to include resetting security panels and troubleshooting issues
  • On-call support for both Corporate Security functions, on a rotational basis.
  • Support to the primary BCP Coordinator to maintain program processes and practices which effectively ensure that the enterprise program remains current, and incorporates/aligns with industry standards and practices as appropriate, and adequately covers general regulatory requirements
  • Assists with processes that support BCP requirements as part of the enterprise operational risk framework
  • Provide 24/7 event management on-call support on a rotational basis
  • Assist Calgary and Ottawa as required

Operational and Physical Security

  • Oversee the Commissionaire guard services contract and direct day-to-day operations through the Site Sergeant in Halifax
  • Review training requirements and forecast additional staffing requirements for guard staff
  • Update and maintain Post Orders with Corps of Commissionaires Site Sergeant in Halifax

Milestone

  • Support to the Application Administrator for Halifax
  • Surveillance Camera planning, installation (assist technicians), programming and upkeep
  • Provide ongoing support with investigations by way of photo retrieval for incidents and clear information dissemination; overseeing the daily operations of the access control system, which include Network Digital Video, other surveillance systems, communication devices, data base programming and other related equipment, problem analysis & resolution, equipment maintenance & repair
  • Coordination of security management system upgrades, updates and maintenance through contracted service provider in Halifax
  • Badge administration, report generation, troubleshooting, and configuration for security hardware

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma Required
  • College Diploma or University Degree with Criminology background is a bonus and would be considered an asset

Experience:

  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team, be discrete and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Business Continuity Planning processes and best practices would be considered an asset
  • Exceptional ability to remain calm under stress
  • Excellent team skills, both as a leader and as a team player
  • Strong communication skills, related to facilitation, documentation and reporting
  • Highly developed relationship management, influencing and leadership skills
  • Experience in administration and design of video monitoring systems and enterprise security systems would be considered an asset
  • Detailed knowledge of PSPC, Contract Security Program (CSP), Contract Security Manual (CSM), Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Regulations, Canadian Defence Production Act, Working knowledge of the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations would be considered an asset.
  • Should have a very good working knowledge with Microsoft Office tools

Other:

  • Must be able to obtain approval as ACSO from Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Contract Security Program (CSP)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
