Description

SEN TEACHER (MATERNITY COVER)

Contract Type: Maternity Cover (Full-Time)
Location: South East London
Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (Competitive Daily Rate)
Required: September 2025
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and motivated SEN Teacher to join a well-established and highly supportive specialist secondary school. The school caters for pupils aged 11–19 with a wide range of needs, including autism spectrum condition, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and complex communication needs.
This role will be based within the school’s Provision team, which supports approximately 60 of the school’s most vulnerable learners. Pupils are taught in small class sizes of around 10 students and benefit from a multidisciplinary team, including skilled support staff, Speech and Language Therapists (SALT), and Occupational Therapists (OT), who work closely with teaching staff to maximise student outcomes.
About the Role

We are seeking a committed and inspiring teacher with QTS or QTLS to enhance the Provision team for a period of maternity cover. This post would suit:

  • A passionate practitioner motivated to teach a range of subjects.
  • A teacher with experience of using data effectively to track pupil progress.
  • An individual able to develop creative schemes of work tailored to pupils’ needs.
  • Someone with the desire to improve the education of pupils with SEN, believing all students can achieve their full potential.

Although this is an SEN secondary school role, applicants with primary experience who are keen to develop their SEN practice are strongly encouraged to apply. Students’ abilities range from primary level through to early secondary, providing variety and challenge for teachers.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the school’s strong tradition of partnership working with colleges, schools, workplaces, and external organisations.

What We Offer

  • An outstanding school with excellent facilities and well-maintained site.
  • Students who enjoy school and thrive through a broad curriculum and diverse activities.
  • A stable, dedicated, and supportive staff team.
  • Excellent ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • A staff wellbeing day during the school year.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme.
  • A supportive and committed board of trustees.

Safeguarding & Equal Opportunities
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory pre-employment checks. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
We actively encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, in order to reflect our diverse student community.
