Contract: Full-time, Long-term
An ‘Outstanding’ Primary School in Stratford, E15, is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong background in Autism to join their brand-new specialist unit, supporting children from Early Years to Year 1. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with an immediate start.

REQUIREMENTS

  • HLTA or Equivalent Experience: Demonstrable expertise in a leadership role within a classroom, ideally with SEN responsibilities.
  • Autism Specialism: Substantial experience working with pupils on the autistic spectrum, preferably in Early Years or KS1.
  • Personal Care Skills: Willingness and ability to provide personal care to support children’s daily needs.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; knowledge of Makaton, PECs, or other sensory approaches is beneficial.
  • Enthusiasm & Commitment: A proactive, positive attitude, with a passion for making a genuine impact on young learners’ development.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

  • Lead & Plan Activities: Take responsibility for designing and delivering high-quality sessions tailored to the needs of young learners with autism.
  • Early Years & KS1 Support: Work closely with children in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1, adapting activities to meet diverse developmental requirements.
  • Personal Care: Assist with personal care needs as required, ensuring each child’s wellbeing and dignity.
  • Collaborative Environment: Partner with teachers, SEN staff, and other professionals to establish and maintain a nurturing, inclusive setting in this new provision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons that promote communication, interaction, and independence for early learners with ASD.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive, proactive strategies to support children’s emotional regulation and social development.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and welfare of all children, following school policies and statutory guidelines.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe and record each child’s achievements, tracking progress against developmental milestones and setting future targets.
