OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team within our Autism Additional Provision (ARP). The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering daily interventions to support learning and development in a classroom of 8–10 autistic children. You will work closely with the ARP teachers, a dedicated Teaching Assistant, and the wider teaching team to foster an inclusive, supportive, and structured learning environment.
This role also offers a fantastic opportunity for professional growth, making it an excellent stepping stone for those aspiring to develop themselves as a future teacher.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of working with autistic children is essential.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is required.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding when supporting children with diverse needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of children with autism and other learning difficulties.
  • A proactive, flexible approach to problem-solving and teamwork.
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver daily interventions in a classroom of 8–10 children within the Autism Additional Provision.
  • Support the ARP teachers in planning and delivering lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support, adapting strategies to meet individual learning needs.
  • Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs), tracking progress and contributing to reviews.
  • Promote positive behaviour, social interaction, and independence in line with pupils’ needs.
  • Collaborate with ARP teachers, parents, and external professionals to provide a holistic approach to development.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and pupil progress.
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development, particularly in strategies for supporting autistic children.
