Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Deliver 1:1 support and small group learning for pupils with a variety of SEND.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement personalised learning and EHC plans.
  • Adapt resources and activities to promote inclusive learning environments.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being through tailored interventions.
  • Contribute to wider school life, enrichment activities, and staff collaboration.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualifications: Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or SEND-related training (desirable, not essential).
  • Experience: Previous work as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), SEN Teaching Assistant, or in childcare/education support.
  • Skills: Strong communication, patience, empathy, and adaptability.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, sensory/behavioural strategies (beneficial but not required).
  • Attributes: Committed, proactive, and passionate about inclusive education.
